From windows to glass walls – Olla’s Tea Ellala shares the process behind rescuing nearly 600 windows from waste
Olla’s interior architect Tea Ellala explains in an article by Inlook Oy, a company specializing in interior construction, how the Haiku project transformed old office building windows into stylish interior glass walls. According to Ellala, circular economy is the future of architecture, but it requires a new way of thinking from all parties involved. This was precisely the case in Haiku: repurposing the windows demanded open-minded collaboration and a willingness to experiment from the entire project team.
Olla designed the comprehensive renovation of Haiku, a 1970s office building. Inlook was responsible for prototyping the glass walls, storing and transporting the dismantled glass, cleaning, packing, recycling old components, manufacturing the new interior glass elements, fitting them into new frames, and installing them.
The result: adaptable and reusable glass walls with a carbon footprint that is only 40% of that of new glass walls. Read Inlook’s article here (in Finnish).

Olla’s experts learned about circular economy
Tuomas Suur-Uski, a sustainable construction specialist at Sweco, provided Olla’s designers with an insightful session on sustainable building. During the engaging morning, topics covered included expert perspectives on the sustainable construction market, low-carbon solutions, circular economy principles, biodiversity, and various sustainability certifications.
Olla has worked closely with Sweco and Suur-Uski on projects such as Ilmalanlinna, which prioritized overall ecological sustainability, and Haiku, which focused on circular economy solutions.
