Collage: May

The collage is a monthly compilation of Olla’s news. The May summary also offers a great opportunity to express gratitude for a successful first half of the year and to wish a happy summer.

Rapid progress on FIN02 Data Center in Espoo – Second center approved in Kouvola

The construction of the FIN02 data center, developed by atNorth is progressing rapidly on Sinimäentie in Espoo. The project applied for two separate building permits, which allowed construction work to begin at the start of 2024. The center, designed by Olla, is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

atNorth has also obtained a building permit for the data center project in Myllykoski, Kouvola. Myllykoski is an old paper mill area, which is entering a new era with the advent of the mega-scale data center project. The construction is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2025 and the waste heat the center produces will provide heating and hot water for local residents.

Forssa’s Multipurpose Center Akvarelli in the world’s largest architecture media

The multipurpose center designed by Ollan was featured in May on Archdaily, which reaches over 10 million readers monthly.

Forssa’s Multipurpose Center Akvarelli is a learning environment resembling a village community, serving over 800 users daily. Instead of one large building, the complex includes several buildings that house a comprehensive school, daycare, and special education services.

Proudly drawing from the area’s history, Forssa’s largest construction project ever is clad in brick, creating a modern continuation of the old industrial city’s architecture. Additionally, the surfaces of Akvarelli feature printed patterns designed at the textile printing studio founded in the city by Finlayson in the 1950s.

Olla transformed a postmodern office building into a functional and breathable work environment

Olla has been developing the office building located at Valimotie 17-19 in Helsinki’s Pitäjänmäki district for several years. The latest renovation focused on the third floor of the building, which was built in the 1990s. This floor now includes both tenant spaces and several shared spaces designed by Olla.

In the renovation, the building was restructured to create continuities between different-sized spaces, with openness and transparency in between. The changes included new glass wall elements, room surfaces, and a loose furniture plan. Both the colors and the furniture were chosen to respect the original postmodern style of the building.

Olla wishes a wonderful summer – the combined June and July Collage will be published in August

In July, Olla is on holiday – and we recommend it to everyone. The donkeys, captured in the beautiful village of Billnäs, set a great example. There, Olla enjoyed a summer day filled with architecture, chocolate, and adventures. More about this and other summer stories will be in the August Collage which will sum up the news from June and July.

Until then: enjoy the sun, relax, and make your summer dreams come true!
