Forssa’s Akvarelli awarded at Australia’s Good Design Awards for its remarkable architecture

Akvarelli was praised for its thoughtfully crafted, village-like design that fosters a high-quality learning environment for children.

Akvarelli by Olla Architecture received the prestigious Good Design Award in the Architectural Design category, recognizing its outstanding design and innovation.

The jury commented: The Jury praised Forssa’s multipurpose centre Akvarelli for creating high-quality environments for children to learn and grow. The project delivers on its promise of creating a village-like community experience in a built form that is thoughtfully crafted, contextually appropriate, and beautifully detailed.

The Good Design Awards are Australia’s highest honor for design and innovation, celebrating diverse projects across 12 design disciplines and more than 35 categories. Each year, the Awards recognize the best new products and services from both the Australian and international markets, including excellence in architectural design, engineering, fashion, and digital and communication design. With its origins dating back to 1958, the Australian Good Design Awards is the country’s most prestigious international design prize.

This year’s theme, ”The Design Effect,” highlighted the critical role of design in shaping better products, services, spaces, and experiences, while driving the shift toward a more sustainable, low-carbon future.

“This year’s Awards reflect the profound ripple effects that exceptional design can have on people, place, and planet. The honored projects exemplify how thoughtful design can drive meaningful change, enhancing user experiences and the way people interact with the world, while also contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous future. The Australian Good Design Awards are proud to recognize the truly inspirational work being done across various design disciplines, sectors, and industries in Australia and beyond,” said Rachel Wye, Managing Director of Good Design Australia.

The winners were announced on September 20th at the 2024 Australian Good Design Awards, in front of more than 1,000 guests from the design and architecture community.

Last year Akvarelli was nominated for best school building at the World Architecture Festival. Read more about the village-like learning environment here.
